How To Know if your iPhone 6s is Eligible for FREE Apple Battery Replacement

Good news for iPhone 6s owners who have experienced random shut down issues of their device. Apple announced last week that they will offer FREE battery replacement on affected iPhone 6s models.

Apple has determined that a very small number of iPhone 6s devices may unexpectedly shut down. This is not a safety issue and only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015…. Your iPhone will be examined prior to any service to verify that it is eligible for this program and in working order.

Apple is known to have the highest customer satisfaction rating and they continuously do so again this time. Apple is aware of the situation that a very small number of last year’s flagship phone has battery issues where it shuts off unexpectedly. The affected phones are said to be manufactured during the period of September and October of 2015. To make sure if you are eligible for a new battery replacement, give a call to Apple Customer Support or visit the nearest Apple Store in your area. But to time, it is handy to check your iPhones Serial Number. Here is how to know if your iPhone 6s is eligible for FREE Apple Battery Replacement Program.

Step 1: Go to Settings>>>General>>>About

Step 2: Look at the characters in your phone serial number, specifically the the 4th and 5th character. If you have the following characters, then your iPhone is eligible for battery replacement even if it is already out of warranty.

  • Q3iphone-6s-serial-number
  • Q4
  • Q5
  • Q6
  • Q7
  • Q8
  • Q9
  • QC
  • QD
  • QF
  • QG
  • QH
  • QJ

I bought my iPhone 6s Rose Gold 64GB on October 2015 so I quickly look at the serial number. I don’t know if i’m lucky to have found the characters in question or should I be sad because my battery is defective, but yeah my iPhone is eligible for replacement. I called the Apple technical support to verify if I am indeed eligible and it was confirmed by the agent. Strangely, the agent asked for the IMEI number instead. I guess it’s another way to check, but we getting reports that serial number works.

Anyways, if you have an iPhone 6s and experienced unexpected shut downs during cold weather or in heavy use, you might want to check if you are eligible for Apple’s FREE Battery Replacement Program. If you don’t get any shut off problem, then no worries at all. You are good to go, but I think it would be nice to get a FREE New battery on your iPhone, right?

UPDATE: There is now an Apple link where you can check online if your iPhone 6s is eligible for FREE battery replacement. Copy your iPhone Serial number and check it here: iPhone 6s Battery Replacement Eligibility Checker

NOTE: The program covers affected iPhone 6s batteries for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.
