It is the time of the year again when Apple releases their best selling product of all time, the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. While design wise is almost identical to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus or iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, it is the Best iPhone ever.
So you got your new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus and perhaps your first question is, how many hours should you charge your iPhone 7 for the first time?
I am sure that you have heard some people say that you need to charge your new phone about 6-8 hours for the first time. My friends are telling me to charge any new phone at least 6 hours for the first time to prolong the battery life. But, is this also true with the new iPhones?
I got my new iPhone 7 128GB Matte Black today after a successful in store pick-up reservation (Hong Kong IFC Mall Apple Store) after many online reservation attempt. After I finally got the phone in my hands, my first question to the Apple specialist who assisted me was; How long should I charge my new iPhone 7 for the first time? He replied, “Just charge it the normal way and when it reached 100%, that’s it, it’s good to go, do not over charge”. So i was like, “really?” How come many people say that I need to charge new phones at least 6 hours for the first time? He said that it is the case before, but now Apple is using new battery technology for the new iPhones. The Lithium-Ion batteries that are used now do not have a “memory” like the old NiCad batteries had.
I learned that contrary to what many believes, you don’t need to charge your iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus for 8 hours straight for the first time. Just plug it in, charge it until it hits 100% then unplug. That’s it. Done. No need to over charge. To extend the battery life, make sure not to drain your battery often. As much as possible charge your iPhone when it goes down to 20%.
Enjoy your new iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus
